Adoption: the other option

Often we hear from people who are unsure about what to do either after conclusive testing indicating their baby will have Down syndrome or after the birth of a baby. On one day in 2006, we heard from a mother considering adoption but wondering if her baby would be "wanted" by anyone. An hour later, we heard from a teacher who desparately wanted to adopt a baby with Down syndrome. We are not an agency and by no means want to directly put people together. We do want to refer people looking for options to appropriate agencies. Look here for a growing list of agencies which provide adoption for/of babies with Down syndrome. Start here!

If you are a parent of a baby, know there are a lot of people who will love and cherish that child--either as your son or daughter or as their own.
