My Brother Anthony!

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 @ 3:18 PM
My name is Francesca, I'm 13 years old and in 7th grade. I have an 11 year-old brother named Anthony and he has Down Syndrome. I was in love with him since the minute I found out that I was going to be a big sister. I was always the baby to my older sister Maria, who is now 18. So when I found out I was going to be a big sister, I was as happy as can be. I was only 21 months old at the time, but I would always talk to him when he was still only in my mom's stomach. I would say that he was my baby. Anthony is my joy and inspiration and has been since he was a baby.

He is such a happy little 5th grader who I love with all my heart. I don't know what I would do without him. He is a crazy boy who loves to have fun and is very outgoing. But when you first meet him, he is shy and likes to pretend that you can't see him by putting his hands over his face. He is just so adorable and has many many friends that adore and love to be with him. Anthony is literally one of the smartest people I have ever met and he is also one of the funniest. If he hears something on TV he loves to repeat it, and he says it at just the right time. A few weeks after seeing an episode on the Suite Life of Zach and Cody, Anthony remembered hearing a girl named Agnes saying "Ohhhh Agnes likesss!" So when he saw my mom getting ready to go out to eat he goes "Ohhh Anthony likess!" He is crazy but he is hilarious too. One of his favorite movies is Big Daddy and he knows every single word of the movie and he talks along with the actors throughout the whole film, even if they are "bad" words, but he gets in trouble for it like every kid would.

At my Junior High School, there is a girl in 8th grade who has Down Syndrome and she is so cute. Her name is Theresa and she is also an inspiration, just like all children with Down Syndrome. Me and my friends love to be with her and play basketball with her. She is the manager of the 8th grade basketball team. And I think it's pretty funny when some of my friends don't know how to play and Theresa is much better than them. Anthony loves to play sports. He plays basketball and does tai-kwon-do.

Anthony and I hang out all the time. We are best friends and whenever I am sad he always puts a smile on my face. I really dont know how I would survive if Anthony wasnt in my life. And I love him more than anyone in the world. But sometimes when people just kind of stare at him in the store, I just walk proudly with him because I am so blessed to have a funny, crazy, lovable, kind, caring, and loving little brother like him. And I think any boy or girl with a sibling that has Down Syndrome would say that their brother or sister has had such an impact on their lives. To me, having a brother with Down Syndrome means the world to me, because he is so unique but at the same time, he is the same as everyone else.

When I found out I could write about my brother I was very excited and wanted start writing right away. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share about my brother to other people who have family members with Down Syndrome.
