How did Band of Angels conduct research for Common Threads?
In 1999, Band of Angels distributed a survey to approximately 3,000 families who have a member with Down syndrome. We received 257 responses from families of all different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our findings about the talents, skills, hobbies, and passions of people with Down syndrome are reported in our book, Common Threads: Celebrating Life with Down Syndrome.
How can I obtain the research referenced in Common Threads?
Any organization interested in obtaining these results may do so simply by purchasing a copy of the book. Then feel free to reference specific sections with appropriate notation (p.34, Common Threads, pub. Band of Angels Press, 2001) in your organization's regular newsletters.
How do I get my child in the calendar or cards?
The children used in Band of Angels materials are all local to the metro Detroit area. We shoot on location throughout the year. The process is actually somewhat involved and we invest a great deal of time and money in the most appropriate wardrobe, props and shoes. This makes it critical that we use local children, so that, in the event of a rainout or heavy cloud cover, we can rapidly reschedule.
Are the children professional models?
No. The children are simply local kids.
Can we submit our own photographs?
No. The Beautiful Faces calendars and Band of Angels products are all photographed on location using a professional photographer, Kendra Dew. The delicate and unique look is part of the beauty of our products and reflects a strong collaboration between photographer, Kendra Dew, and founder, Cynthia Kidder.

Do you affiliate with any other Down syndrome sites?
No, we don't have any affiliations with any other websites. We do, however, participate in the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention. We are featured at the convention every year.
